Relative Humidity and Temperature Influences on Cirrus Formation and Evolution: Observations from Wave
Clouds and FIRE II

The wave cloud study extends analyses reported by Heymsfield and Miloshevich down to −56°C, in part by using
an improved droplet size spectrometer with a detection threshold of 0.4 µm am a Video Ice Particle Sampler
with a detection threshold of 5–10 µm. The measurements show a rapid transition from solution droplets to
ice crystals characteristic of homogeneous ice nucleation throughout the temperature range from −35° to
−56°C. The temperature dependence of the relative humidity and the droplet sizes when ice nucleation occurs
is consistent with theoretical and experimental expectations for homogeneous freezing. An expression is
given for the peak RH with respect to water in the wave clouds (RHhn), which decreases from 100% above −39°C
to 73% at −56°C; RHhn represents the condition required for ice nucleation in the wave clouds and is shown
to be more consistent with the homogeneous freezing of sulfuric acid solution droplets than ammonium sulfate
solution droplets.
Aircraft measurements made in cirrus during FIRE II show highly ice-supersaturated regions in clear air,
placing a lower bound on the RH required for cirrus formation approximately equal to (RHhn–10)%.
Measurements from a balloonborne Formvar ice crystal replicator are reported that show the vertical
structure of cirrus generally consists of three microphysically distinct regions: a highly ice-
supersaturated ice production region near cloud top, an ice-supersaturated ice crystal growth region, and a
sublimation region near cloud base formed by fallout of ice into ice-subsaturated air.

humidities, approaching 90%, were measured in clear air
at -52 degrees C off the coast of California and relative
humidities approaching 100% were observed in
orographic wave clouds between -62 and -65 degrees C.
These results indicate that very high relative humidities
can build up at low temperatures in instances with high
vertical velocities and possibly with depletion of cloud
condensation nuclei, thus retarding the formation of ice
crystals. These regions provide conditions highly
favorable for contrail formation by aircraft."

Vincent Schaefer, inventor of cloud seeding in 1946,
both affirm that cloud formation is not expected to
even begin below relative humidities of 70%. That case
itself is considered unusual, exemplified with the
introduction of hygroscopic nuclei, such as salts in the
atmosphere along the coast. Persistent contrails
stated by numerous sources to have the potential to
exist only in conditions of near saturation to

II. HOMOGENEOUS ICE NUCLEATION
The formation of cirrus clouds in environments with moderate
to strong upward draughts or few germs is dominated
by homogeneous nucleation, as elaborated by Tompkins et al.

before nucleation begins under conditions of low temperature

Of all the people I have seen online you seem to be the most qualified to answer this few questions
reguarding the chemistry of persistent contrails.
You mention in your paper on http://hyperion.gsfc.nasa.gov/AEAP/98jensen1pos.html
about the evolution of persistent contrails that supersaturation (125% humidity) must be the cause of the
highly persistent contrails but in another paper you mention homogeneously nucleated sulfate aerosols
My question is have the variations in chemical make-up of the highly persistent contrails being spotted
everywhere been determined? If so could you point me to the studies and the data that should explain this?
Homogeneously nucleated sulfate aerosols are more hygroscopic then other particulate from what I gather from
your writing and from other info I have gathered.
Is this the primary cause?

RAF rainmakers 'caused 1952 flood'
Unearthed documents suggest experiment triggered torrent that killed 35 in Devon disaster.
Squadron Leader Len Otley, who was working on what was known as Operation Cumulus, has told the BBC that
they jokingly referred to the rainmaking exercise as Operation Witch Doctor.
His navigator, Group Captain John Hart, remembers the success of these early experiments: "We flew straight
through the top of the cloud, poured dry ice down into the cloud. We flew down to see if any rain came out
of the cloud. And it did about 30 minutes later, and we all cheered."
The meteorological office has in the past denied there were any rainmaking experiments conducted before
1955, but a BBC Radio 4 history investigation, to be broadcast tonight, has unearthed documents recently
released at the public record office showing that they were going on from 1949 to 1955. RAF logbooks and
personnel corroborate the evidence.
Until now, the Ministry of Defence has categorically denied knowledge of any cloud-seeding experiments
taking place in the UK during early August 1952. But documents suggest that Operation Cumulus was going on
between August 4 and August 15 1952. The scientists were based at Cranfield school of aeronautics and worked
in collaboration with the RAF and the MoD's meteorological research flight based at Farnborough. The
chemicals were provided by ICI in Billingham.
Many countries now use the technology, which has considerably improved during the past 50 years.
But controversy still surrounds the efficacy of these early cloud-seeding experiments. In 1955 questions
were asked in the Commons about the possibilites of liability and compensation claims. Documents seen by the
BBC suggest that both the air ministry and the Treasury became very anxious and were aware that rainmaking
could cause damage, not just to military targets and personnel, but also to civilians.
The British Geological Survey has recently examined soil sediments in the district of Lynmouth to see if any
silver or iodide residues remain. The testing has been limited due to restrictions in place because of foot
and mouth disease, and it is inconclusive. However, silver residue has been discovered in the catchment
waters of the river Lyn. The BGS will investigate further over the next 18 months.
Survivors of the Lynmouth flood called for - but never got - a full investigation into the causes of the
disaster. Rumours persist to this day of planes circling before the inundation.

2.4 Frequency of Trails and Why This Factor Alone Should Raise Suspicion.
From my observations, it seems that spraying seems to take place on 3 or 4 days per week. Though its pattern
varies somewhat, aircraft often seem to follow the same flight path (a South-East to North West path is
often repeated over my own house).
Even just considering this factor should raise suspicion. For example in a run of 3 days, with the same
weather conditions at ground level, there may be significant trailing on one day and then little or none on
the other 2 days. If the trails are caused by civilian air traffic, as most people tend to assume, then this
does not make any sense, because the amount of civilian air traffic over a given area on any given day
should be relatively constant, or at least will be similar on each subsequent Monday, Tuesday etc.
6.1.2 Time of Trail Persistence
Vapour trails from aircraft should NEVER persist for more than about 2 minutes – even in ideal conditions.
This can easily and clearly be demonstrated from the time lapse footage included on the DVD. A chemtrail
does not even behave like a cloud formation – it does not “billow” – it forms, spreads out and then “fades
away”.

Below is a link to a memo from Andrea Psoras dated May 5, 2008, who is from QED International, to the
Secretary of the Commodities Future Trading Commission (CFTC) discussing the ‘legitimacy’ of trading
insurance risk related to weather events, as commodities.
Commodities are traded every day on the stock markets all over the world. Insurance companies insure for
“events” that protect these commodities as well as property. These “event” contracts are also traded on the
stock market.
At the present time, insurance companies provide compensation in the event of a natural catastrophe.
So the question is, according to this memo, “Should insurance companies be liable for the “weather
manipulation” events that occur that are covered under insurance policies?”
Basically, the insurance industry wants the term “natural event” to be completely redefined to mean “only
natural events” and leave out any “weather manipulation/modification or earth shaking events” from the
policies. The insurance companies don’t want to be liable for providing compensation for what the
government, military, and intelligence agencies are creating with weather manipulation technologies.
They cite a report from August 1996, to the Air Force, that the government wants to rule the weather by
2025. So if a particular tornado, earthquake, hurricane, or flooding is found to NOT BE A NATURAL event,
then the insurance companies don’t want to pay for it – and want that defined in the policies.
The memo goes on to list the areas of weather modification:
Fog – creating fog by means of cloud seeding, dispersal techniques, and chemtrails
Precipitation – creating precipitation by means of lasers and using nanotechnology
Storms – creating and controlling storms by means of creating heat in atmosphere, storm cell triggering,
and lightning modification
Space-Weather Modification – through controlling the ionosphere using chemical vapors, heating the
electromagnetic radiation, x-rays, particle beams, and radiation beams
