the city of Sirte, including 1,000 children. How in anyone's estimation

to estimates previously released by the National Transitional Council
(NTC), by early September 30,000 people had been killed and 50,000
wounded in the war. The toll continues to escalate. According to NATO’s
publicly released figures, their bombers recorded 121 separate “key
hits” in Sirte in the last two weeks of September alone. These air
strikes are being conducted on the basis of limited or no intelligence
and therefore can only be described as indiscriminate and in blatant
contravention of international law.

Gaddafi's home town, Sirte,
were said to be special beneficiaries of the ruler's largesse. The
Mediterranean port was prosperous and productive amidst the strangeness
and strictures of his arbitrary rule. Were citizens supposed to object
on moral grounds because their benefactor favored them? What risk would
they have incurred by doing so, even if they wanted to turn away
special favors? They had no choice but they got the message from NATO.
It's your turn to die.
Hadn’t
they heard the pronouncements from the United States, Great Britain,
and France that Gaddafi was reformed and a member in good standing of
the world community? Perhaps they missed President Barack Obama's
announced change in that assessment.
When
the Libyan rebels and their NATO allies prevailed over Gaddafi's
forces, Sirte stood as the most prominent holdout against the
government that denies that it is, in fact, a government, the National
Transition Council (NTC). The citizens of Sirte didn't attack any other
city. They simply lived there.
In
early September, the top commander of the RTC announced that Sirte
would be taken by force if the town failed to surrender. There were pro
Gaddafi forces in the city. But city officials, separate from those
forces, tried to negotiate a peaceful end to the threatened siege.
Unfortunately, the residents and their representatives lacked the power
to do the one thing that was needed to save their lives, surrender
Gaddafi. For this, the town was demolished by NATO bombings and many
were injured or killed.

civilians were also used in a broad media campaign against Libya. These

some Libyans are worried by Abdel Hakim Belhaj. It’s not that his
revolutionary credentials are anything less than impeccable. When
victorious rebel forces blasted through the gates at Muammar Gaddafi’s
Bab al-Aziziya compound in Tripoli, the 45-year-old commander who led
the charge was none other than Belhaj. As a battle-hardened veteran, he
had organized and trained many of those rebel fighters in Libya’s
western mountains. And now the rebels’ National Transitional Council
(NTC) has accepted him as head of the newly created Tripoli Military
Council, with control of some 8,000 troops, the biggest fighting force
in Libya.
The
trouble is that Belhaj’s record as a Gaddafi adversary just might be
too impressive. Belhaj is a founding member and former leader of the
Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), which is listed by both the U.S.
State Department and the British Home Office as an international
terrorist organization. Several past or present LIFG members have held
prominent positions in al Qaeda, including operations chief Atiyah Abd
al-Rahman, who was recently killed in a CIA drone attack. The LIFG is
hardly Libya’s only militant Islamist force, but it’s easily the
biggest and very possibly the most dangerous.

How al-Qaeda got to rule in
Tripoli

His
name is Abdelhakim Belhaj. Some in the Middle East might have, but few
in the West and across the world would have heard of him.
Time
to catch up. Because the story of how an al-Qaeda asset turned out to
be the top Libyan military commander in still war-torn Tripoli is bound
to shatter - once again - that wilderness of mirrors that is the "war
on terror", as well as deeply compromising the carefully constructed
propaganda of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO's)
"humanitarian" intervention in Libya.
Muammar
Gaddafi's fortress of Bab-al-Aziziyah was essentially invaded and
conquered last week by Belhaj's men - who were atthe forefront of a
militia of Berbers from the mountains southwest of Tripoli. The militia
is the so-called Tripoli Brigade, trained in secret for two months by
US Special Forces. This turned out to be the rebels' most effective
militia in six months of tribal/civil war.

Already last Tuesday,
Belhaj was gloating on how the battle was won, with Gaddafi forces
escaping "like rats" (note that's the same metaphor used by Gaddafi
himself to designate the rebels).
Abdelhakim
Belhaj, aka Abu Abdallah al-Sadek, is a Libyan jihadi. Born in May
1966, he honed his skills with the mujahideen in the 1980s anti-Soviet
jihad in Afghanistan.
He's
the founder of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) and its de
facto emir - with Khaled Chrif and Sami Saadi as his deputies. After
the Taliban took power in Kabul in 1996, the LIFG kept two training
camps in Afghanistan; one of them, 30 kilometers north of Kabul - run
by Abu Yahya - was strictly for al-Qaeda-linked jihadis.
After
9/11, Belhaj moved to Pakistan and also to Iraq, where he befriended
none other than ultra-nasty Abu Musab al-Zarqawi - all this before
al-Qaeda in Iraq pledged its allegiance to Osama bin Laden and Ayman
al-Zawahiri and turbo-charged its gruesome practices.
In
Iraq, Libyans happened to be the largest foreign Sunni jihadi
contingent, only losing to the Saudis. Moreover, Libyan jihadis have
always been superstars in the top echelons of "historic" al-Qaeda -
from Abu Faraj al-Libi (military commander until his arrest in 2005,
now lingering as one of 16 high-value detainees in the US detention
center at Guantanamo) to Abu al-Laith al-Libi (another military
commander, killed in Pakistan in early 2008).


Terror
Expert Jason Burke, author of Al Qaeda, one of the most quoted books on
the subject, is also in the video excerpt above (1.08 in) he states;
“The
terrorist group al-Qaeda in fact does not exist. It was made up in
January of 2001 in order to prosecute Osama bin Laden in his absence.
In order to prosecute bin Laden there had to be an organization like
the Mafia for which he was a part of. Under the law if such an
organization exists then the head of the organization can be prosecuted
under the law. So in order to bring the prosecution they made up the
organization and called it al-Qaeda. But the organization is fiction.
It doesn’t exist. It’s all a huge fraud.”
and then
adds;
“The idea
which is critical to the FBI¹s prosecution that bin Laden ran
a coherent organisation with operatives and cells all around the world
of which you could be a member is a myth. There is no Al Qaeda
organisation. There is no international network with a leader, with
cadres who will unquestioningly obey orders, with tentacles that
stretch out to sleeper cells in America, in Africa, in Europe. That
idea of a coherent, structured terrorist network with an organised
capability simply does not exist.”

claiming that key evidence in the Lockerbie bombing trial was

retired officer - of assistant chief constable rank or higher - has
testified that the CIA planted the tiny fragment of circuit board

police chief, whose identity has not yet been revealed, gave the
statement to lawyers representing Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi,
currently serving a life sentence in Greenock Prison.

evidence will form a crucial part of Megrahi's attempt to have a
retrial ordered by the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission

reputation of the entire Scottish legal system.
The
officer, who was a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers
Scotland, is supporting earlier claims by a former CIA agent that his

In
March 2011, the London Telegraph reported that Libya's rebels had
direct ties to Al Qaeda and that both leaders and fighters had spent
time in both Iraq and Afghanistan combating US troops.

The article
titled, "Libyan rebel commander admits his fighters have al-Qaeda
links" featured Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, who had been captured by the US
after fighting Americans in Afghanistan, returned to Libya, and
released under a bargain for Hasidi and his Libyan Islamic Fighting
Group (LIFG) militants to abandon extremism and become productive
members of society. Quite obviously, and with the US, UK, and NATO's
help, Hasidi and his men went back on this bargain and are now sowing
murder and mayhem across Libya.
According
to US Code Section 2339A & 2339B, the leaders of NATO, along
with
the US, UK, and French governments, are clearly guilty of providing a
listed terrorist organization with material support in the most
egregious, overt case since the code was written. The staggering scale
of training, arming, and providing air support for Libyan Islamic
Fighting Group militants, listed by the US State Department itself as a
terrorist organization, all done criminally under the guise of
"international law" rubber stamped by the contrived UN and bolstered
with support from the equally contrived International Criminal Court,
may be partially why more people are unable to understand the scope of
criminality involved in NATO's intervention in Libya.

NATO
and the Transitional National Council in Libya (or Paris or Qatar or
wherever it is) have reportedly given the people of Sirte ten days to
surrender or face a full military onslaught. This is not a cease-fire.
While they await their fate, they will still be subject to artillery
fire and NATO bombing, and food, water and electricity have already
been cut off.
This
closely resembles the tactics adopted toward resistance-held towns in
Iraq by U.S. occupation forces. On October 14th 2004, the Washington
Post reported that water and electricity supplies to Falluja had been
cut off, one day before the start of Ramadan. Its population was then
starved and bombarded for 3 weeks before the final assault by U.S.
Marines that killed 4,000 to 6,000 civilians.
But
these siege tactics, which have been used against civilian populations
since the Middle Ages, have been outlawed by the Geneva Conventions. In
particular, Article 14 of the second Protocol to the Geneva Conventions
states, "Starvation of civilians as a method of combat is prohibited.
It is therefore prohibited to attack, destroy, remove or render useless
for that purpose objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian
population such as food-stuffs, agricultural areas for the production
of food-stuffs, crops, livestock, drinking water installations, and
supplies and irrigation works."
The
4th Geneva Convention prohibits all forms of attacks on civilians and
the collective punishment of civilian populations, so virtually
everything that the combined TNC-NATO forces are doing to the people of
Sirte is strictly illegal and in fact criminal.

relocate to foreign countries, namely in the Middle East and Europe,
